South Dakota: Value-added beef production workshops start Nov. 29
BROOKINGS, SD – The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service will host a series of value-added beef production workshops in four cities in the next two months.
Each workshop will be held from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. local time, and they will focus on important topics for beef producers in South Dakota.
The locations and dates include:
• Nov. 29, Benny’s side room, 200 Main Ave., Lemmon, SD;
• Nov. 30, Pizza Ranch sunset room, 1209 10th St. W., Mobridge, SD;
• Dec. 13, Mellette County Courthouse basement meeting room, First & McKinley Street, White River, SD;
• Dec. 14, Wild West Steakhouse meeting room, 865 W. Second St., Winner, SD.
The meetings are free and a lunch meal is available for a nominal fee. Pre-registration is required for the workshops. To sign up for the Lemmon event, call the Harding County Extension office at 605-375-3412, and for the Mobridge event, call the Corson County Extension office at 605-273-4368. To register for the White River or Winner events, call the Tripp County Extension office at 605-842-2858.
Extension specialists and educators, along with other livestock experts, will present information on organic and natural beef production requirements along with production management and marketing alternatives associated with the conversion to organic or natural production. Topics include program differences, organic certification process, herd health, forage systems, costs of production, budget and marketing, and risk management.
South Dakota State University, the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service, and the North Central Risk Management Education Center are organizing the events.
