Spickler Ranch Annual Angus Bull Sale

Spickler Ranch held their annual production sale at the ranch near Glenfield, ND on May 3, 2010. It may have been a cold, windy day for May, but that didn’t seem to matter to the standing room only crowd of buyers that actively bid on this great offering of Angus genetics.
The Spickler Family has been ranching and selling seed stock in the James River Valley for over 70 years. Today the operation is run by third generation brothers Justin and Nathan Spickler and their families. Throughout those seven decades of ranching, the focus has always been to produce sound functional cattle that are adaptable to the extreme weather conditions this area has to endure. The mother cows need to have excellent udders and mothering ability with very few calving problems, breed back in a reasonable time frame and bring in a heavy calf at weaning time without the benefits of creep feed.
The bulls and heifers in the sale were backed by some of the most popular and up and coming herd bulls in the Angus breed. One of these particular herd bulls, S Chisum 6175, was bred and raised at Spickler Ranch selling to Genex in their 2007 sale.
The top selling fall yearling bull was Lot 116, S Chisum 8409, an 8/10/08 bull sired by S Chisum 6175 and out of a Sitz Alliance dam. This bull posted EPDs of BW 0.7, WW 57, YW 102 and Milk 36, with a WR of 107 and YR of 108. The bull sold to Leo Gauderman of Glenfield, ND for $5,000.
Topping the yearling bulls was Lot 162, S Elevate 9165, a 3/21/09 bull by GDAR Game Day 8005 out of a Connealy Forecast dam with EPDs of BW 1.1, WW 49, YW 89 and Milk 23 that sold to Kipp Sparrow of Mercer, ND for $14,000.
