SR Cattle Company to host Environmental Stewardship Tour

The annual Environmental Stewardship Tour, hosted by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA), Wyoming Department of Agriculture, and program partner Sand County Foundation, will be held at the SR Cattle Company, outside of Sheridan, Wyo., Wednesday, June 22nd, with registration beginning at 8 AM.

Each year, Wyoming Environmental Stewardship Day marks the date of the Environmental Stewardship Tour hosted by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) and the Wyoming Department of Agriculture (WDA). The annual event showcases that year’s Leopold Conservation Award® recipient’s conservation efforts. The 2016 recipient of the award is the SR Cattle Company owned and managed by the Kane family, who has a sustainable and profitable cattle operation in northern Wyoming.

“We are honored to receive the Environmental Stewardship Award,” said Terri Kane. “Caring for the land enables us to continue our western way of life, help feed the world’s ever-growing population, maintain abundant wildlife, and pass important values and responsibilities to the next generation. Every decision that is made on the ranch has an effect on the land, and we take those decisions seriously. We are proud to be recognized as good stewards of the land.”

SR Cattle Company is located northeast of Sheridan near the Montana border. The Kane family’s dedication to outstanding, voluntary conservation sets an example for landowners across Wyoming and the United States. Their ranch nearly reaches Decker, Montana, and contains a separate piece of land with livestock on Wolf Creek near Dayton and Ranchester, Wyoming. Currently, David and Terri’s youngest son, Nate, is the fifth generation of the Kane family to ranch near Sheridan.
