Three September Country of Origin labeling (COOL) meetings set

Meetings to address the requirements of Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) will be held in Britton, Watertown, and Brookings.

The meetings include the following times and dates:

– 10 a.m., Sept. 22, at the Community Building, Britton



– 7 p.m., Sept. 22, at the Codington County Extension Complex, Watertown

– 10 a.m., Sept. 23, at the Brookings County Extension office in the Swiftel Center, Brookings.



Individuals engaged in businesses that supply commodities to retailers, directly or indirectly, are encouraged to attend. The mandatory program goes into effect Sept. 30, 2008.

The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service, along with the USDA, will present information at the meetings. A representative from ABS Global, along with Extension professionals, also will address fundamental calf value issues.

Other topics include valuing your feeder cattle, source and age verification, and market exploration.
