TSLN announces management changes
Effective July 6, Tri-State Livestock News (TSLN) announces a shuffling of management duties. Scott Engel, publisher of the publication for the past three years, now serves as Advertising Director, focusing his attention on advertising and revenue growth opportunities.
Susie Thompson, formerly operations manager for TSLN, will step into the role of general manager. Thompson is also the manager of the Farmer & Rancher Exchange publication for the company.
Both weekly agriculture publications, TSLN and Farmer & Rancher Exchange, are owned by Swift Communications, a family-owned company that publishes newspapers and operates Web sites in South Dakota, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and California. The South Dakota publications work closely with sister agriculture newspapers, the Rocky Mountain and Plains Edition of the Fence Post, based in Colorado and Nebraska.
Engel has extensive experience in advertising and marketing. He oversees an advertising staff that includes: Doug Hogan, cattle marketing manager; Dan Piroutek and Scott Dirk, cattle marketing executives; Dianna Palmer and Susan Cable, regional sales supervisors; and account managers Sarah Swenson, Steve Bass and Carissa Lee.
Thompson will manage the business side of the publications. She has oversight over circulation as well as the news content of TSLN, along with editor Alaina Mousel. Thompson has worked in an operational capacity at South Pole and McMurdo research stations in the Antarctic before marriage relocated her to South Dakota in 2006. She and her husband own a working cattle ranch outside of Spearfish.
