USDA releases request for proposals for GMO study
The Agriculture Department’s Agricultural Marketing Service said Wednesday it is seeking a vendor to conduct a study of electronic or digital link disclosure of the presence of genetically modified ingredients in foods, FedBizOpps.gov. reported.
The proposal is to be completed by May 30, 2017, 60 days before the July 29 statutory deadline to finish the report.
But the proposal also notes that the contract award “is subject to the availability of funds” — an apparent reference to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s statements that Congress did not provide money for the needed studies when it passed the GMO labeling law.
