USDA’S N.D. crop production report for 2014

Based on Sept. 1, conditions, North Dakota's 2014 soybean crop is forecast at a record high 196 million bushels, up 42 percent from last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Area for harvest, at a record high 5.95 million acres, is up 29 percent from last year. Average yield is forecast at 33.0 bushels per acre, up three bushels from 2013.

Corn production is forecast at 376 million bushels, down five percent from last year. Acreage harvested for grain is estimated at 2.85 million acres, down 21 percent from 2013. Average yield is forecast at 132 bushels per acre, up 22 bushels from last year, and ties the 2010 record high.

Sugarbeet production is forecast at 5.06 million tons, 11 percent below last year's crop. Area for harvest, at 211,000 acres, is down six percent from last year. Average yield is forecast at 24 tons per acre, down one and three-tenths of a ton from 2013.
