UW sale offers hogs, lambs to 4-Hers and FFA members
University of Wyoming’s Annual Hog and Lamb Sale is 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Cliff and Martha Hansen Teaching Arena southwest of Laramie.
Approximately 50 head of February-born market hogs and 10 head of January-born Suffolk/Hampshire crossbred market lambs are available for purchase. The arena is at 470 state Highway 230.
Proceeds benefit the UW Animal Science Block and Bridle Club, help fund the sale itself, but most importantly, said Laramie Research and Extension Center director Doug Zalesky, provides 4-H’ers and FFA members a cost-effective opportunity to purchase project animals for this year’s fairs.
“While we do not necessarily focus on producing specifically show animals, we do provide animals that can be competitive in the show ring,” Zalesky said. “We provide this opportunity at a very reasonable price and give kids the opportunity to get animals that will work for them and allow them to participate in animal projects in both 4-H and FFA.”
Zalesky said a free lunch is provided using sale profits and served by Albany County 4-H’ers, who use the event to fund-raise for their programs.
