Variety sought for Black Hills Horse Expo Breed and Stallion Demonstrations
Do you have an interesting horse breed or quality stallion you’d like to show off? The Black Hills Horse Expo (BHHE) is once again looking for beautiful and fascinating horses to take part in the Expo’s Breed Demonstrations and Stallion Showcase. The BHHE is now reserving stalls for both events. The 6th Annual Expo will be held March 8-9, 2008, at the Pennington County Event Center in Rapid City, SD.
Breed Demonstrations have consistently been one of the most popular features of any Horse Expo.
“The Breed Demonstrations give the public a chance to view breeds of horses that are not common to our area,” said BHHE Committee Chairwoman Billye Jo Casteel, “and it also gives the owners of these animals a chance to exhibit their horses and demonstrate to the public their breed’s unique talents and uses.”
Mayola West, Breed Demonstration coordinator, agrees. “What makes the Breed Demo so special is that it gives people the opportunity to see many different and rare breeds of horses,” she says.
There will be a stall decorating contest and more. Stall rental fees are $35 for the entire weekend (Friday, 6 p.m., to Sunday, 5 p.m.). The deadline to reserve stalls is Feb. 11, 2008.
The Stallion Showcase fee is $200. Stallions must be registered in a recognized breed registry, a quality representative of its breed, in good health and physical condition, well mannered and able to handle crowds and close proximity to other horses. The deadline to reserve a spot in the Stallion Showcase is Feb. 5, 2008.
The Black Hills Horse Expo is a benefit for the Northern Hills Area Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (NHCASA). NHCASA trains local community members to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children. To date in 2007, the program has served 137 children in the eight-county 4th Judicial Circuit.
