Vicki Young

Vicki Young passed away Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

Vicki Sue Kolb was born Sept. 26, 1957 to Herb and Jessie (Posely) Kolb in Lemmon, SD. She grew up in Bison, SD, were she liked helping her dad outside. Vicki enjoyed rodeo growing up. She qualified for the National High School Finals in Gallup, NM. She was also a state 4-H Champion and competed in SDRA and NRCA rodeos.

Vicki graduated from Bison High School and continued her education at Black Hills State College. She earned a degree in elementary education in 1976. Vicki started her teaching career in 1976. She taught at Progress Country School for several years. She then taught at Buffalo, SD, for a year in 1985, while teaching there, she met Doug Young. On Dec. 27, 1986 they were married and the couple made their home on a ranch north of Dupree, SD. Vicki resumed teaching at Progress School for a few years, but in 1990 she to Dupree School where she taught until the time of her passing.

In 1991 Vicki and Doug had a son, Trey. He was the light of Vicki’s Life. She spent countless hours watching Trey compete in sports and rodeo. Vicki’s highlights in her life were making trips to Gallup, NM, to the Jr. High School National Finals and Springfield, IL, to the National High School Finals to watch her son compete in rodeo. She loved the ranch life and was her husband’s constant companion for 24 years. She was a member of the Indian Creek Lutheran Church. In 2000 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She battled ferociously for 10 years before leaving us on Jan. 18, 2011.

Grateful to have shared her life were her husband, Doug of Dupree, SD; son, Trey of Dupree, SD; parents, Herb and Jessie Kolb of Bison, SD; sister, Salli Blazey of Bison, SD; niece, Nikki; and nephew, Tyler.
