The Wernings have sold herd bulls to some of the top programs and their genetics can be found in almost any program you go to. These cattle combine the important traits that affect all cattleman and yet do it in an eye appealing package.
Topping the sale at $80,000, was lot 43. This bald faced bull is a full brother to the recently crowned national champion female. He is sired by the Werning/Genex bull Lock N Load and out of a Dream Catcher cow. He combined a great look, and muscle with a 84 pound birth weight and a 846 pound weaning weight. Harrell Cattle Company of Carthage, Ill., and Tingle Farms of Newcastle, Ky., teamed up to buy him.
Lot 52 was the second high seller, bringing $40,000, going to BF Black Simmentals of Auburn, Neb., and Brandon Bird of Lubbock, Texas. This homo black and homo polled three-quarter simmental bull is sired by W/C No Remorse and is also out of a Dream Catcher cow. He has a 90 pound birth weight, a 796 pound weaning weight, and a 1,253 pound yearling weight.
Lot 1 brought $26,000 going to NLC Ranch of Wessington, S.D. This powerhouse, baldy, halfblood son of Lock n Load is out of a Bushs Absolut Power cow. He was as impressive on paper as he is to look at. He started out with a 79 pound birthweight, grew to 778 at weaning and gained 5.2 a day to give him a 1,541 pound yearling weight. His EPD’s are -.5 bw, 67 ww, 130 yw, and 30 on milk. He is also homo black and homo polled and has a 42 cm scrotal.
Lot 2 was selected by Zach Kearns of Rushville, Neb. This homo black, homo polled halfblood bull is sired by Lock n Load and is out of a Hyline Right Way 781 cow. This bull broke the yearling weight and average daily records at Werning’s. His yearling weight of 1,747 and adg of 6.2 helped rank him in the top 1 percent for yw epd and top 4 percent for ribeye area in the Simmental breed. Kearns had to give $21,000 to own this herd sire.
Kappes Simmentals of Long Lake, S.D., and Hart Farms each gave $15,500 to buy the next high sellers.
Hicks Cattle Company of Covington, Neb., paid $34,000 to own lot 140 to top the bred heifer division . She is a half brother to the high selling bull, but is sired by JS Sure Bet. This attractive, baldy, purebred is bred to W/C No Remorse for a March 1 baby.
