Western Junior Livestock Show to offer top show prospects
Western Junior Livestock Show (WJLS), in its 71st year, continues to build and improve each year. This open-to-the-world 4-H livestock show features breeding cattle shows, feeder calf shows, as well as swine, sheep and dairy shows. The 2008 event is set for Oct. 8-11 at the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City, SD.
The WJLS Board of Directors, in a bold move to offer more top show calf prospects in the annual sale, voted to have all first and second place animals in each class offered through the sale. This includes all feeder steer and feeder heifer classes. This includes English (Angus, Hereford, etc.), Feeder Steers, English Feeder Heifers, Other Breeds (Maine Anjou, Charolais, Continental cross, etc.), Feeder Steers and Other Breeds Feeder Heifers.
The Western Junior Livestock Show Feeder Calf Sale is slated for Oct. 11 at the Soule Building on the Central States Fairgrounds. The sale begins at 1 p.m. MST and buyers may preview the cattle beginning at Noon MST.
“This sale will truly offer the best cattle in the show with the new format,” says Jackie Maude, Western Junior Livestock Show manager. “It gives youth an opportunity to purchase top prospects for their future 4-H projects.”
