Gary and Lori of Wilken Angus hosted a huge crowd for their annual bull sale held at Faith Livestock. The weather was nice and that only helped add to this big day! The Wilkens added more bulls, but they were easily swallowed up by this big, aggressive crowd of buyers.

The Wilken program is based around calving ease bulls that sire moderately framed, easy fleshing females that are economically viable.

It’s pretty easy to feel welcome at the Wilken sale with Lori and her daughters providing the best of refreshments before and after the sale. But the Schwann’s ice cream sundaes were the hit of the bull sale season!

The sale was very consistent throughout, and the fact that every bull was out of an AI-sire proved to add to this consistency.

Top-selling bull of the day was Lot 53, selling for $6,750 to Boyd Ellingson from Meadow, SD. He was a son of SAV Final Answer 0035, with a 78-lb. birth weight. He weaned at 637 lbs. and posted a yearling weight of 1,237 lbs. to ratio 115. This registered bull had EPDs of CED 9, BW 0.1, WW 50, YW 90, CEM 10 and Milk 22.

Terry Ryer from Hoven, SD, bought Lot 67 at $6,250. This AI-son of SAV Final Answer 0035 was out of a daughter of Power One. He was a recommended heifer bull with a 62-lb. birth weight, a weaning weight of 650 lbs. to ratio 106, and a yearling weight of 1,141 lbs. to ratio 106.

Dean La Due, a long-time repeat buyer from Meadow, SD, selected Lot 57 at $6,500. Another son of Final Answer, and out of a daughter of Bar EXT, this bull had an 82-lb. birth weight. He weaned at 640 lbs., and grew to a yearling weight of 1,171 lbs. to ratio 109.

Lot 9106, a two-year-old bull was sired by Mytty in Focus and out of a daughter of 6I6. He had a 75-lb. birth weight, a weaning weight of 653 lbs., and was a recommended heifer bull. His mother had a birth weight ratio of 97. This bull sold for $6,250 to Bruce Penner from De Smet, SD.

Roy Bolden from Buffalo Gap, SD, purchased Lot 55 at $6,000. He was sired by SAV Final Answer 0035, and was out of a daughter of Bar EXT who had a birth weight ratio of 98. This recommended heifer bull had an 80-lb. birth weight and had weaned at 619 lbs.

The Archibald Ranch from Hettinger, ND found Lot 78 to their liking and paid $6,000 for the privilege of taking him home. This registered bull was out of GDAR Game Day 449 and his mother was a daughter of Bon View New Design 878. He had a 93-lb. birth weight, a weaning weight of 757 lbs. to ratio 116, and then attained a yearling weight of 1,254 lbs. His EPDs were CED 4, BW 2.0, WW 54, YW 99, CEM 8 and Milk 25.

It was a great day for the Wilken family, and one of the really strong sales of the season.
