Wyoming: WESTI Ag Days, Feb. 1-2, in Worland adress brucellosis and crop issues

Topics at this year’s annual Wyoming Extension’s Strategically and Technologically Informative (WESTI) Ag Days in Worland are literally from the ground up.

Specialists and educators from the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) will join with other agricultural experts from across the state Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 1-2, at the Worland Community Center Complex. The theme is Partners in Agriculture.

There are 18 sessions Tuesday and 17 sessions Wednesday.

Cool-season grasses, confectionary sunflowers, high tunnels, meeting winter nutritional needs of cows, the grain bin loan program, alternative energy on a farm or ranch and fertilizer considerations are among many topics.

“I believe we have many, many programs for farmers, ranchers and anyone with an interest in agriculture,” said Ron Cunningham, UW CES educator based in Fremont County and who serves Big Horn, Fremont, Hot Springs, Park and Washakie counties and the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Wyoming state veterinarian Jim Logan will present on brucellosis, and Cunningham will conduct pesticide certification sessions.

The tentative schedule is available online at http://ces.uwyo.edu/WESTI2011.pdf or call the Washakie County extension office in Worland at 307-347-3431 for more information.

A free lunch is provided both days. Each day begins with registration, rolls and coffee at 8:30 a.m. Sessions start at 9:15 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. each day.
