Etbauer inducted, clinics, rodeo schools, Wyo. Wild Ride and Ranch Rodeo, Pryor Mountain gather
It’s sure been a windy month so far. I think the shingles I’m picking up now may have come from several miles away. I’ve been afraid to look too closely at our roof as there may not be any left.
Congrats go out to Billy Etbauer who grew up at Ree Heights, South Dakota. On April 11 he was inducted into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame, along with 19 other athletes. Billy, 52, has always been known as the “nice guy” of professional rodeo and a great role model for our young athletes.
The northwest region high school rodeo kids from South Dakota need to know that their fabulous regional rodeo secretary, Karen Stevenson, has a new email address. It’s email@example.com.
South Dakota brand renewals are due May 1. Don’t let that good brand slip through your fingers by forgetting to renew it.

The documentary film “Floating Horses: The Life of Casey Tibbs” is progressing along nicely and more funding is needed to continue the project. If you would like to help with that, go to the Kickstarter fund at http://kck.st/1z5B9Kz. The young man doing this documentary has done others that are simply beautiful and very educational.

The BLM in Billings, Montana is seeking public input on a proposal to gather the Pryor Mountain wild horses. It would be the first in three years. Horse numbers are exceeding the target of 90-120 head with a current population of around 170 head. They will be damaging the rangeland they run on and threatening the well bring of the whole herd if they aren’t cut back to the target number. The agency would be removing 30 head of horses, ages yearlings through three, and the horses placed for adoption. To send a letter to them, write to: Jim Sparks, Field Manager, BLM Billings Field Office, 5001 Southgate Drive, Billings, MT 59101 or fax it to 406-896-5281. They need to hear from people who actually know something about range management, like ranchers, as you and I both know there will be lots of howling from the anti’s about any gather of the wild horses. The roundup will be a low stress water trap gather, so the anti’s really don’t have much to holler about. But they will anyway.
Well, that’s my circle for the week. Be sure and send me any items you’d like to see in this column, whether it’s an event, fundraiser, or just a new item. I need any items at least 10 days prior to the event or it won’t run in the paper in time.
