INFR info, horse shot near Gillette, congrats to several, WSRRA, 20th WRCA Championship

I am just amazed at the beautiful fall weather we've had. We did have a few days of keen winds that sure redistributed some shingles for us, but aside from that, it's been great fall work kind of weather. I know there are lots of calves being pre-conditioned and shipped, cows being preg checked and all. I haven't heard any cranes or geese honking south yet, but I'm sure that's coming soon.
Here's a heads up for the INFR Jr. Event Qualifiers. You must send your grades/progress reports dated for October 15-22 directly from the school to the INFR office. If you already sent something in, you need to re-do it and make sure you get the new one for the time period requested and sent from the school, not from home. The number to fax them to is 406-338-3754.
Speaking of the INFR, we have lots of regional contestants headed that way for the 40th INFR! It will be Nov. 3-7 at the South Point Arena, Las Vegas, Nev. There will be 450 contestants vying for titles and money. My best to all of you!
On a grim note, on Wed., Oct. 8 at around 7:30 in the evening, neighbors heard gunfire in the area, but it wasn't until the next morning that Lori Thompson found one of their broodmares dead in the pasture. The 10 year old mare had been shot. Their property is on Moncrieffe Ridge Road, near Gillette, Wyo. If you have any information about this, please call the Campbell County Sheriff's office at 307-682-7271.
Congrats to Taz Olson, Prairie City, S.D. on being awarded the Levi Wisness award at the Badlands Circuit Finals on October 10. Levi was a well loved steer wrestler who died of cancer in 2008.
The upcoming WNFR has named it's staff for the event. Roughstock chute boss is Tom Neuens, Powell, Wyoming. The assistant secretary of the rodeo is Penny Walton, Billings, Mont. Timers include Jessi Franzen, Riverton, Wyo. for the second straight year, and Amy Muller, Agar, S.D. for her first trip. Congrats to all for being so good at what you do that you get chosen for the biggest of the rodeos important jobs.

The WSRRA (Western States Ranch Rodeo Association) Finals will be in Winnemucca, Nev. October 29-November 1. There are many regional contestants qualified and going to this event, plus there is a fabulous trade show and other events. It's also home of the Professional Wild Horse Racers Association national finals, so lots to go to. On a similar note but in a different part of the country, the 20th WRCA (Working Ranch Cowboys Association) World Championship ranch rodeo will be in Amarillo, Tex. on Nov. 12-15. Again, huge trade show, plus other great events including one of the finest ranch horse competitions there are. We've been to the WRCA finals and it's sure worth the trip. I know there are some great regional teams qualified for it and I wish them all the best. You can learn more at http://www.wrca.org.
