Outside Circle by Jan Swan Wood: Shipping time, ranch sorting, Slope Circuit Banquet, UBHA futurity, Buck and Ball
Spent the last couple of days getting set up and ready to ship calves. The weather has been perfect for it and the calves have really been gaining on the fresh green grass that the fall rains brought on. I got to spend the afternoon horseback on a very good, home raised fourth generation gelding. We trailed the cows home for shipping and he never missed a chance to do the job right. The cranes were going over in droves and singing their southward songs of farewell for the season. It’s days like today that make some of the harder days and times bearable. There’s always something to look forward to in this business, but you have to make the effort to look.
