Outside Circle: Fall rain, SDRA finals, bull riding, computer target practice

We’ve sure enjoyed the fall rain we’ve received. The country has greened up considerably and makes those tiny haystacks looks just a bit bigger. We’ll be pre-conditioning calves in about 10 days and am glad the rain has settled the dust and that we finally had a frost to kill some of the flies. They should be really laying it on by the time we run them through the chute.

The S.D.R.A. finals will be at the James Kjerstad Event Center, Rapid City, S.D. on October 21-23. This is always a great rodeo to watch in a really good facility, plus there are other events happening there over that weekend too. I’ll have more info on it next week and will share that with you here.

The S.D.R.A. Open 4D Barrel Jackpot will be Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Event Center in Rapid City. Exhibitions will go from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. with the open to follow. You can enter there that day. For more information, call Courtney Whitman at 817-773-5639.

The 1st Annual Little Warrior Bull Riding at Three Mile Creek Arena, Kyle, S.D. will be Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. Open bulls will have $500 added with the top four ride off and a Calcutta. The junior bulls will have $150 added. For more info or to enter, call 623-202-8034. Entries close Oct. 29 at 1:30.

Well, that’s my very short circle for this week. My computer system at home crashed so my neighbor has had to put up with me invading her home this week, hence the lack of news. If you see smoke on the horizon, it’s probably just me burning my laptop in the driveway after emptying a .45 into it and drenching it with diesel and setting it on fire. Hopefully, things will be back to normal next week. Do send me any upcoming events or information that you want to have me share here! Have a great week.

One would think that with all the discussions currently taking place about high consumer beef costs while at the same time declining profitability of the cattle industry, in particular the cow-calf sector, we would see…
