Outside Circle: Junior rodeos, horse racing, playdays, barrel races, rodeos
Took a little drive around the area last weekend and saw some country that made me feel a lot better about how it looks here on Dry Creek. The wind has a been a tiresome reminder of the drought and it’s showing on the grass and hay ground. Thankfully, it’s green and raining in some areas and I’m sure happy for them. A friend traveled up to western S.D. from west Texas recently and he said that it’s green all the way north to the Black Hills from about I-40 in the Texas panhandle. That’s good to know. Some of that country has been desperately dry for several years so it was about their turn to get some rain.
At the recent Casey Tibbs Match of Champions bronc ride in Ft. Pierre, S.D., Wade Sundell, Boxholm, Iowa, won the saddle broncs and Isaac Assman, Isabel, S.D., won the mini-broncs. Wade rode Burch Rodeo’s great Lunatic From Hell to a breathtaking 91 points for the win!

The freestyle bronc ride is worth the drive all by itself, I hear!
July 15 is National Day of the Cowboy in Meteetsee, Wyo. There will be a ranch rodeo at 1 p.m., then a free community dinner with potluck desserts at the Oasis Motel and Campground at 6 p.m.
