Outside Circle: Windy, horse shows, high school rodeo, Amish auction, bull riding, grass founder
If wind made grass grow we’d be in great shape! It’s getting awfully dry around the region, though there are some spots that have had some really good moisture. I’m not on one of those spots, sadly. It’s still green, but a few more warm days with this high wind and it will start changing. Let’s all be praying for some good, soaking rains!
The Central Wyoming Performance Horse club show will be June 9-11 at the Cam-plex Central Pavillion in Gillette, Wyo. The shows will start at 8 a.m. Show manager is Erin Mullane who can be reached at (205) 790-0137.
All of you S.D. high school rodeo kids need to be getting your year-end grade transcripts right away. You’ll need them to check in at the regional rodeos.
The South Dakota high school finals will be in Belle Fourche, S.D.’s Roundup Grounds June 13-17. It’s always a great rodeo to watch.
The 17th Annual Amish School auction will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17. The sale will be held 9 miles north of Ashland on the Tongue River Road. Besides quilts, furniture and other items, there will be some nice horses for both riding and driving, plus buggies, harness, saddles and other tack. I hear the food there is also fantastic, and it’s in a beautiful area. Well worth the drive! You can look over all the auction items on http://www.mills-auction.com.

A dear friend had a very nice mare grass founder on her last week, so I’m going to remind you again about that very real possibility. If you see your horse/mule/burro standing with it’s feet out in front of it or laying down when everything else isn’t, it may have foundered. Even horses who aren’t overfat can founder, with ponies, drafters and mustangs being particularly vulnerable. If your horse shows any signs, err on the side of caution, get it off that grass and into a dry lot, get those feet cooled off with mud, water or ice, give it some Bute and call your vet. Once foundered, they’ll be very prone to doing it again too.
Well, that’s my windy circle for another week. Be sure and send me any upcoming events you know of and I’ll gladly share them right here. My email is at the top of this column! Have a great week and I hope you get rained out of whatever it is you’re trying to do. F
