Dry Bean webinar series and open house scheduled

A series of webinars presented by the specialists and educators at the UNL Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center will begin on July 22. The 2026 Dry Edible Bean Webinar series will highlight research, projects, and economics related to dry beans for producers, industry professionals, and the public.

The webinars will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. MT as follows:

  • July 22: Does Group 15 Herbicide choice and timing matter? – Dr. Nevin Lawrence, Integrated Weed Management
  • July 29: Thrips in dry bean: insecticide efficacy, variety variations, and more – Dr. Pin-Chu Lai, Entomology
  • Aug. 5: Edge AI Camera System for weed, disease, and defoliation in agriculture – Dr. Wei-Zhen Liang, Biological Systems Engineering
  • Aug. 12: On-Farm Research update – John Thomas and Gary Stone, Water and Cropping Systems
  • Aug. 19: Irrigation Management for dry beans – Dr. Xin Qiao, Irrigation Management
  • Aug. 26: Dry Bean breeding activities in Nebraska – Dr. Carlos Urrea, Dry Bean Breeding
  • Sept. 23: Ag Economy insights for producers – Jessica Groskopf, Agricultural Economist

The webinars are free, but registration is necessary to receive the link at https://go.unl.edu/nfoh  



Recordings of the webinars will be available the next day at https://preec.unl.edu/  

An open house will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center (PREEC) in Scottsbluff. The open house will open with food and networking. The public will then have a chance to visit research plots at PREEC, educational displays, and information booths. University specialists and researchers will be available to discuss current research projects and answer questions.



The open house is free, but call 308-632-1230 to register for a food count.
