Harms and Lien claim average championship at Sutherland
SUTHERLAND, Neb. — Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture rodeo athletes Garrett Harms of Brule and Jace Lien of Chadron came home as the overall team roping average champions following a strong weekend of competition in Sutherland.
Harms and Lien opened the weekend with an 8.5-second run in the first rodeo, earning second place overall in that competition.
The pair returned Saturday morning and stopped the clock at 10.1 seconds, a run that qualified them for the short go. They followed with a 12.2-second run in the short round to earn second place. Their consistency across the weekend paid off, as Harms and Lien finished as the overall average champions in team roping and brought home YETI tumbler trophies for their performance.
Other NCTA Rodeo Team members also saw action throughout the weekend. Clay Frecks, Tyrell Homm and Dominic Schmidt competed in team roping, while Jaylea Schmidt represented NCTA in breakaway roping. In barrel racing, Carlie Brandt, Jadynn Vandeventer, Rose Mamot, Katie Phelps and Ellie Jenning competed for the Aggies. The weekend gave the team another opportunity to gain experience, improve in the arena, and support one another throughout the competition.
