Outside Circle by Jan Swan Wood: Windy for a change, playdays, series, bucking horses and bulls, ropings
It’s another windy day here. I’m sure all caught up on wind for a while. At least it’s a cool wind instead of a hot one, so that’s a plus. There have also been tornadoes, hail and fires in the region. It seems that Nebraska can’t catch a break on the fires. My heart goes out to all those who have had such disasters.
It has rained here and there, thankfully. Due to that, the Sundance Youth Summer Series Rodeo #1 rain date will be utilized Aug. 5.
The New Underwood Playday series dates are June 16 23, 30; July 7, 14. I was not provided with entry or start time information.
Pitching Twine at the State Line Team Roping series has started at the Bar One Bar Arena, Sidney, Mont. All of the ropings are enter on site with entries closing at 6:30 p.m., the roping starts soon after. Dates are June 20 (Bronc Miller Memorial), 23; July 7, 21; Aug. 4, 18. The 2nd Annual Backyard Buckers Ranch Bronc Riding is June 21, 1 p.m., at Arlee, Mont. Entries are open now and are $115, and open to both men and women. It’s a WSRRA sanctioned event. Enter at 406-726-3762.
The Ernest Tooke Memorial Match Bronc Ride, ABHA Futurity and a stray gathering will all be at Ekalaka, Mont. on June 21. If you want to enter the match broncs, you need to enter by June 22 with either Michelle Tooke 406-975-6289 or Mac Tooke 406-975-6288. There’s $8000 added! To enter the bronc teams, dummy colts or stray gathering, call Mac. The ABHA futurity will be at 3 p.m., Calcutta for the bronc match at 5:30 with the bronc match and stray gathering to follow. A street dance with live music will round out the evening.
June 27 is the 4th Annual Goat Roping at the Crook Co. Fairgrounds, Sundance, Wyo. It’s open to all with both youth and adult divisions. Entries open at 5:30 with the roping at 6. Entry fee is $5/person.
Bothwell Bucking Bulls Benefit Bullriding is June 27, 7 p.m., at Bothwell Ranch, Rapid City, S.D. Bull teams can enter with six bulls and bring three riders. Rider’s fee is $100, team fee $1,400/ To enter your team call Kelly Ward 308-520-5872. Bull teams and bull riders will be competing for a piece of $4,000 added money in each event. There will also be mutton busting for the littles and live music after the event.
A cornhole tournament will start the day off at 9 a.m. with $1500 added to the purse on it. For details call Lucas 605-484-6936. Bothwell Ranch is at 11618 Erickson Ranch Rd.
There will be a steer roping at Thompson Arena, Whitewood, S.D. on June 27, noon and 28, 10 a.m. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the day.
June 27-28 is the WRBC/MHA sanctioned Women’s Ranch Bronc Riding at Healing Horse Ranch, Parshall, N.D. To enter text 940-255-7676.
KPH Arena Versatility Camp is June 27-28 at Gillette, Wyo. It will include ranch riding, reining, trail and working western rail. It’s $300/rider, limited to 10. A jackpot will follow for $5 fee. To reserve your spot call 307-680-5362.
The Center of the Nation Chapter of Cowboys for Christ is holding a Happy Birthday USA 250 Years celebration at the Belle Fourche Rec. Center Theatre on June 28, 3:30 p.m.
Rapid City Boots and Saddle Club playdays are June 28; July 5, 26; Sept. 6, 27, 9 a.m., at Rounds Arena, Central States Fairgrounds, Rapid City, S.D. A membership meeting will be held on June 28 right after the leadline classes.
Tickets are on sale now for the Black Hills Roundup Ranch Rodeo on June 30, 5 p.m., at the Roundup Grounds, Belle Fourche, S.D. A free meal will precede the Calcutta and ranch rodeo, all part of the ticket price.
Entries are open now through July 5 for the Little Missouri Saddle Club Kid Rodeo on July 11. It’s open to kids ages 5-15 with fun events for all. Held at Marmarth, N.D., you can enter your kiddos on jotform at Little Missouri Saddle Club on Facebook. There is also a special needs kids event and to enter your kid you’ll need to call Hope at 701-440-5562.
Well that’s my windblown circle for this week. Please pray for our neighbors fighting fires, cleaning up from tornadoes, hailstorms and now, the threat of screw worms.
