R-CALF USA: ‘We appreciate FDA approval of Ivomec for NWS’

BILLINGS, Mont., Feb. 6, 2026 — Yesterday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for Ivomec (ivermectin) injectable solution to help prevent infestations caused by New World screwworm (NWS).
The FDA said scientific evidence suggests Ivomec may be effective in preventing New World screwworm infestations in cattle when given within 24 hours of birth, at castration or when a wound appears.
R-CALF USA CEO Bill Bullard issued the following statement in response to the announcement.
“New World screwworm presents a serious and immediate threat to U.S. livestock and to the stability of our domestic food supply. At a time when our nation’s cattle and sheep herds have already declined to historically low levels, we cannot afford another crisis that further undermines America’s ability to produce its own food. We appreciate the FDA’s decision to authorize an additional tool that may help producers prevent infestations.”
The emergency authorization will remain in effect until it is revoked or federal officials terminate the declaration that New World screwworm presents a potential public health emergency.
