The Outside Circle: ABHA Finals, horse sale consignments open, series, youth rough stock school

     Just so you know, not all of the grand old trees around my house survived the windstorm of a couple weeks ago. One big one came down and about got my house. It hit the corner of the porch roof and then crashed onto my deck. The deck railing is wrecked but, at least it didn’t score a direct hit on my house! Many had terrible damage and long power outages due to poles being snapped. I heard there were some fires sparked by power lines too. It was quite a storm and won’t be forgotten any time soon!

    Tickets are on sale now for the Miles City Community College Rodeo Buckaroo Bash. It will be on Feb. 21 and will have a big night of live/silent auctions, raffles, dinner and a dance.

    Tim Hruby’s Winter Jackpot series will have goat tying, tie down and breakaway roping. Dates are Jan. 4 and 18 and will start at 11 a.m. They’ll be held at 463 Cottonwood Rd.,  near Hemingford, Neb. You can get all the details from Tim at 308-665-2246,

     There’s a change of scene for the American Bucking Horse Association Finals. It will be at MCC Ag Advancement Center, Miles City, Mont., on Jan. 24. The deadline to enter horses is Jan. 6. It’s $250/head, check-in 11-1 p.m., contractor meeting to check dummies is at 3 p.m., and they’ll start bucking horses at 4 p.m. It’s fun to watch so make your way down there for a fun evening of bucking horses.

     Consignments are open for the 5^th Annual Cowboy Country Horse Sale on Mar. 20-21 at the CamPlex, Gillette, Wyo. Consignment forms can be gotten at http://www.CowboyCountryHorseSales.com.

    There’s a reschedule and location change for the CSSHA Winter Showdown and Thermopolis Winter Sorting series. The next Team sorting will be Jan. 10 at Hot Springs Fairgrounds, Thermopolis, Wyo.

    The Hot Springs Co. Barrel Series at Thermopolis, Wyo., is kicking off. Dates are Jan. 15, Feb. 15, Mar. 15, Apr. 12, May 17, Aug. 16, Sept. 13, Oct. 11 and the finals on Nov. 7-8.

    The North Country Stock Horse Winter Versatility Ranch Horse Series at 406 Arena, Vaughn, Mont., will be starting soon. They’ll have reining, cow work, trail, ranch riding and steer stopping. Friday evenings will have practice and the jackpots are on Saturdays. Dates are Jan. 17, Feb. 21, Mar. 21, Apr. 13.

    If you have an up-and-coming young roughie that wants to get some good instruction, then the Buzzard Bait Bucking Ponies Rough Stock School on Jan. 17-18 is the place to be! They’ll have barebacks and saddle broncs for ages 8-18 and bulls for ages 8-15. It’s $450 for the two day school which will have instruction from the ground up.     An SDRA Judge’s Clinic will be Feb. 2, 10-noon, at the Box Event Center, Box Elder, S.D. It’s mandatory that judges attend a school every other year.

     The Frozen Fury on the Plains bronc ride will be Feb. 7, 6 p.m., at the Event Center at Archer, Cheyenne, Wyo. They’ll accept 12 contractors and 24 bronc riders for the event, and there’s a sweet $4000 added to each side.      Don’t wait too long to get signed up for the Bull Riding and Bull Fighting Schools on Feb. 6-9 at Sandhills Global Event Center, Lincoln, Neb.
