The Outside Circle: Bible camp signup, Indian Relay finals, Cinch playoffs, horse sales, and bull riding school
It’s cool and windy with a prediction for some rain as I’m writing this. I sure hope it does! I had almost a quarter inch last weekend, so that was exciting. Too bad that it was followed by a day of high wind that blotted it up pretty quickly. At least we know the sky can still leak though.
Signup for the 10th Annual Broncs, Bulls and Bibles Camp will be open at 8 a.m. on Sept. 22. Not before that. Call 406-855-2184 to sign up and if the line is busy, leave your name and number and when it slows down a bit you’ll get a call back. They’ll have barebacks, saddle broncs and bulls. They’ll take six 7-13 year olds and 12 ages 14 and up. On Friday and Saturday nights there will be cowboy church open to all. A free rough stock clinic will be Nov. 20-22 too. All will be at the Mile City College Ag Advancement Center, Miles City, Mont. I will get an actual date for the Bible camp soon.
Don’t forget the fabulous Championship of Champions Indian Relay Finals on Sept. 25-27 at Cheyenne, Wyo.’s Frontier Park. Gates will open at noon with the opening ceremony at 2 p.m., followed by the Indian Relay races. If you haven’t been to this event, you need to!
The Cinch Playoff Governor’s Cup Rodeo is Sept. 25-27 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center, Sioux Falls, S.D. Tickets are available at http://www.cinchplayoffs.com.
Sept. 26 is the Rapid City Quarter Horse Association Fall Trail Ride. It will be held in the beautiful Black Hills west of Rapid City, S.D. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the ride will leave camp at 10. A map with directions to get to camp can be found at http://www.rcqha.com under “Events”. For more information call Alan 605-430-6277.
The Annual Hulett Roping Club BBQ, meeting, Queen contest and playday will be Sunday, Sept. 27. A free lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., bring your own plate and utensils. The meeting will be at 1:30, and the queen contest and playday to follow. The playday is open to all ages and has a small fee.
Lemmon Livestock Market is holding an open consignment and loose horse sale on Sept. 30, starting at noon.
A new horse sale is going to be held Nov. 22 at the South Dakota ELITE Horse Sale facility east of Sturgis, S.D. It will feature lead-in weanlings, yearlings and two year olds, as well as select riding horses. Consignments are open now and will close Oct. 1. Photos must be in by Oct. 5. You can get the forms from the Facebook page South Dakota ELITE Horse Sale by messaging you name and email to them.
The All Grit No Quit Bull Riding School is Oct. 2-4 at the Ag Complex, Wright, Wyo. All ages and levels are welcome and there will be appropriate stock for every level, also mini bulls for the smaller set. The school is $550 with $200 needed for a non-refundable deposit. The Sandhills Fall Catalog and the Turtle Brand Production Horse Sale will be Oct. 3, 2 p.m., at Gordon Livestock, Gordon, Neb.
The 1st Annual Benefit 3 Man Doctoring and Iron Man will be Oct. 3 at Wibaux Co. Fairgrounds, Wibaux, Mont. All proceeds will go to Dee Dee Birnel’s medical expenses. Entry is $150/team, $50 for the Iron Man. Entries are open until the day of the event. Enter with Naccona 406-901-1927. A raffle is also being held with the drawing the day of the event. In the raffle are a weanling colt, a stallion breeding, equine A.I. and ultrasound services, hamburger, pork and more. $20 gets you one ticket, $50 gets you three.
Arthun Enterprises and Turbiville Roping Cattle will be having the Friday Night Round Robin Team Ropings at Arthun Arena, Gillette, Wyo. Dates are Oct. 9, 16, 30; Nov. 6; Dec. 31; Jan. 22; Feb. 26; Mar. 19. Pre-entries are required and the code can be found on Arthun Equine page.
