There was a few days of cooler weather here and even a little rain at my house. It was welcome. As I write this, the heat wave is to return over the weekend. I’m not excited about that.
There will be Buzzard Bait Bucking Ponies at the Roughrider Rodeo, Richardton, N.D. on Aug. 7-8. Entries for the ponies are open July 25-Aug. 5 by calling Kerry at 701-880-8372. Leave a message with name, age, weight and level of experience.
Oglala Lakota Nation Tour of Champions Indian Relays will be Aug. 1-2, 1 p.m., at three Mocassin Park, Pine Ridge, S.D.
The signup deadline for the Acord Fall Colt Starting clinic on Sept. 5-7 is coming up right away on Aug. 5. The clinic will be at the ranch near Weston, Wyo. and will cost $500/colt with a non-refundable $200 deposit required to hold your spot. The Faith Stock Show and Rodeo has lots of events lined up. Aug. 5 is the PRCA Match Bronc Ride at 7 p.m. Aug. 7, 4 p.m., is the mutton busting, wild pony races, and pony barebacks. Enter there before the event. At 6 p.m. will be the ranch rodeo and ranch broncs. Go to their Facebook page for the full event schedule!
Aug. 6 is the 12th Annual Bennett County Ranch Rodeo and kids events at Martin, S.D. At 5:30 there will be mutton bustin’, then mini bulls at 5:45. The ranch rodeo Calcutta is at 6:30 then the event at 7 p.m.
The Bowman County Fair is Aug. 6-9 at Bowman, N.D. The Ranch Rodeo and Ranch Broncs are Aug. 7, 6 p.m., at Dakota Winds Arena. Entries for the ranch broncs is $100, taking 12; ranch rodeo is $400/team, taking 10 teams. There will be a calcutta too. Events are branding, double mugging and late for work. There’s $2000 added in the ranch rodeo, $500 in the ranch broncs. Entries are open now. To enter call Beth 701-206-0042.
Entries are open now through Aug. 6 for the Hunter Memorial Young Gunz Showdown on Aug. 7. There will be timed events, stock events (including bulls and broncs) and stickhorse events for the smaller kids. To enter text 605-441-9007.
Then on Aug. 8 is the Hunter Memorial Open Rodeo is at noon. Entries are open Aug. 5, 6-9 p.m., by calling 605-455-1372. There will be events for all ages at this. Both Hunter Memorials will be near Kyle, S.D. Details for both events can be found on the Facebook page of Three Mile Creek Rodeo Company.
Triple R Tack is hosting a Dummy Roping at the Custer Co. Fair Aug. 8. Enter at 3:30 and rope at 4. The entry fee is $5 and is 100% payback. Age groups are 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-13.
There will be a Ranch Sorting clinic Aug. 14 at the Roundup Grounds in Belle Fourche, S.D. Sage Bach will be the instructor. It’s $150/person with $50 deposit required. Camp Crook’s Ranch Rodeo is Aug. 16 at Camp Crook, S.D. A calcutta will be at 12:30, with the event at 1 p.m.The entry fee is $200/team and each team must have one man over 55, any age woman and one child 7-13. There will be a Bronc Riding Boot Camp Aug. 16-20 to get started in saddle broncs. It will be held at Reeves Ranch, Eagle Butte, S.D., with Tom Reeves coaching. To learn more or to sign up, call Tom at 605-218-1954.
An Endurance Riding clinic will be Aug. 21-23 near Deadwood, S.D. Learn all the ins and outs of endurance riding in a fun setting. Limited to 10 spots and a $50 non-refundable deposit is required to hold on of the 10 spots. To sign up contact Jen 512-297-0521.
