Brady Turgeon dominated at the Cody/Yellowstone Xtreme Bulls in Cody, Wyo., with a 92-point ride on Frontier Rodeo’s Larry.

While he hadn’t seen the bull buck before, Turgeon felt confident going into the ride that he had drawn one he could win on.

“I looked at his stats, so I knew he was going to be a good one,” Turgeon said after his win at the Rank 45 Xtreme Bulls Series event. “I went into it with the mindset of just riding him for what he is. Just trust my stuff.”

The Frontier Rodeo bucker had one of his best trips yet, and Turgeon rose to the challenge. Though, at times the ride was a lot to handle, he said.

“It definitely felt a little touch and go,” Turgeon said. “But, about halfway through the ride, I got my feet back. I was a little worried I was going to be too late for that next jump, but it ended up working out perfectly.”

Turgeon won $13,043 in Cody, which was a breath of fresh air after a less than ideal start to his season.

“It’s been rough,” he said. “I have not ridden to what I know my full potential is, and it’s a little hard to stay positive. But, you just have to trust the process, and it worked out pretty good for me tonight.”

Despite some recent struggles, Turgeon has still hung onto his spot in the top 50 of the PRCA | Bill Fick Ford World Standings and grabbed wins at the Flagstaff (Ariz.) Pro Rodeo and the PRCA Bull Riding at Tuacahn in Ivins, Utah, along with several other checks along the way.

With some of the highest-paying summer rodeos just around the corner, this win couldn’t have come at a better time for the Arizona cowboy.

“I have a good bit of confidence now, and I’m gonna stick to what I did tonight,” Turgeon said. “Just look at the bulls’ stats, see how they are, and ride them for what they are without overthinking it or overcomplicating it. Bull riding is simple, and I just have to keep it simple.”

Turgeon currently sits No. 4 in the Turquoise Circuit bull riding standings, and will compete at the circuit finals this fall. However, the ultimate goal for Turgeon is still a trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

“I lost a lot of momentum in the rookie race, so I definitely want to gain back every little bit that I lost,” he said. “And, we’re still shooting for the yellow chutes.”

There may be some ground to make up, but Turgeon said he’s excited for the rest of the season.

“There’s no reason to get down,” Turgeon said. “I’m top 50 in the world, and I’ve still got a chance. I’ve been doing this for the majority of my life, so I know my muscle memory is there.

“When I stop fighting my head, I go to work and do what I know how to do.”
