Congrats Betty! Event series, rough stock events, schools, and meetings

It’s been another beautiful hay saving, energy saving, work saving week here in my area. I hear that will be changing toward the end of the month, but I’ll sure enjoy it as long as it lasts.
Congratulations to Betty Steele, Sundance, Wyo., on being named to the 2026 Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame Living Inductee. There’s no one more deserving and she’s been a cowboy woman always, working in many fields that were usually mostly men and being an example to other women on how to be a lady while doing it. I am honored to call Betty my friend and am just thrilled for her. She’s the “real McCoy” for sure.

The Rock Ridge Landing and Black Hills Working Equitation folks are holding working equitation gatherings where you can learn working equitation and dressage in a fun environment. You can go to two meeting for the price of one on Jan. 14, 6 p.m., when the Harding Co. 4-H Rodeo and Buffalo Youth Rodeo planning meetings are held at the Number 3, Buffalo, S.D.
The South Dakota Winter Ranch Horse Show Series is continuing on Jan. 17 and Feb. 15 at the Lazy S3 Arena, Parker, S.D. Warmup riding at 8 a.m., the office opens are 9 a.m. and the show is at 10. Feb. 20, 7 p.m., will be the Black Hills Broncs and Barrels at the James Kjerstad Event Center in Rapid City, S.D. It will feature ranch broncs, saddle broncs, barebacks and barrel racing.
Bothwell’s are kicking off the Knuckle Bull Riding series on Jan. 24. Entries are open now for 10 jr. bull riders and open bulls by calling Thad at 605-381-9166 or Michelle 605-393-7752. The mutton busting entries will be taken there before the event. Gates open at 5 p.m., calcutta at 6 and event at 7, all at the Knuckle Saloon in Sturgis, S.D.

If you’re looking for barrel races, Cottonwood Equine Center at Joliet, Mont., is having one on Jan. 31, then Miller’s Horse Palace is holding one the next day at Billings, Mont., on Feb. 1. I’ll bet the committee is praying for snow at Sundance, Wyo., for the Winter Festival on Feb. 14, 10 a.m. on Main Street of beautiful Sundance, Wyo. There will be many activities but the topper is the skijoring. It’s a great event and worth going, providing they can get some snow!

If you have youth rodeo kids, you probably ought to get this written on your calendar. The Jackson Youth Rodeo Series held at the Four Season Indoor Arena, Weston Co. Fairgrounds, Newcastle, Wyo., has the following dates scheduled: Mar. 29, Apr. 26, May 10 and a rain date of May 31. I’ll add more details as it gets closer.
Well, that’s my circle for this week. Please pray for our nation, for those in law enforcement, ICE agents, border patrol and our military, plus all of our local first responders. It’s sure a more risky job they are all doing these days and our prayers need to be covering them to protect them.
