Outside Circle by Jan Swan Wood: Sand for Newell Arena, Fundraiser for Red Owl rancher, CAM-PLEX events, Bulls/Broncs/Barrels at Baker
I took in a bit of the Black Hills Stock Show, though not as much as I had hoped. We made it down to the first Saturday and walked through stallion alley. What a nice bunch of horses. Of course there were some I liked better than others, but I was impressed with the overall quality and enjoyed visiting with the people that had them there. I always get to see some folks I haven’t seen in a while and then hear that I missed others who were there. That’s the way it goes with the crowds.
On February 13, there will be a fun time had for a good cause at the Vale Bar in Vale, S.D. The Newell rodeo arena crew are trying to improve the ground and are holding a fundraiser to pay for some sand. According to J.D. Mutchler, head honcho of the rodeo, there will be a nice Valentine’s supper available from the menu, then there will be a dance with live music by The Lucky Foxes Band. The venerable Newell Arena is home of the Labor Day Rodeo and the World’s Championship Sheep Teepeeing Contest annually. It should be a fun time for all with good food and good music! For more information, call J.D. at 605-490-0343. I might even see if the ol’ curmudgeon wants to go and shake a leg!
In the “there but for the grace of God go I” category, there will be a benefit for Darrel Wilcox, Red Owl, S.D. rancher, on Saturday, February 27.
