Trevor Brazile, a 26-time PRCA World Champion, has long been hailed as the greatest rodeo athlete of all time. Now, his son is finally old enough to compete in professional rodeo, and he’s getting the ball rolling right away.

Treston Brazile, 18, won his first ever PRCA Rodeo at the Mesquite (Texas) Championship Rodeo, June 20. Brazile teamed up with two-time PRCA World Champion Header, Tyler Wade, and the two Texas cowboys took the win by more than a second with a 4.5-second run.

“I wasn’t planning on getting my (PRCA) permit until I felt like I was ready to go in all of the events I wanted to do,” Brazile said. “But, T-Wade called me and said if I got my permit in time, he would go spin me one over there. I couldn’t turn down an opportunity to rope with someone like that.”

Before Wade and Brazile roped, the team in the lead had made a 5.9-second run. The pair were the last to go and did exactly what they needed to do.

Wade is an eight-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier (2016, 2018-19, 2021-25) and he won world championships in 2023 and 2024 roping with heeler Wesley Thorp.

“We had a good steer, and we were last out,” Brazile said. “In that position with the guy he is, Tyler knew what we had to be.”

Roping alongside a seasoned veteran definitely has its advantages for a young competitor, no matter how experienced they are. Brazile said when he ropes with Tyler, all he has to think about is heeling the steer in front of him.

“I just knew as soon as my shot was there to just take it,” Brazile said “I tried to just stay in my lane, do my job, and not think about anything else. I knew he would take care of most of it. I just had to heel the steer.”

With his win in Mesquite, Brazile already has enough money won to fill his PRCA permit and buy his PRCA card, though he plans to continue rodeoing on his permit for the time being.

Before he buys his PRCA card, Brazile plans to attend Weatherford (Texas) College and compete for the school’s rodeo team. He plans to compete in team roping, tie-down roping and steer roping at collegiate rodeos.

“A big part of going to college for me is preparation,” Brazile said. “And, getting my horse situation right to be able to go for the (Resistol) rookie title.”

With the King of Cowboys as a father, Treston has access to some of the best coaching as well. Though he said he doesn’t always do things exactly the way his father did.

“My dad is really selfless in that he doesn’t need me to do everything his way,” the 6-foot-2 Brazile said. “I’m three or four inches taller than him, so there’s things that I can do that he can’t really do height-wise or lengthwise, whether it’s heeling or roping calves. So, he’ll break down different people who do stuff really well who are my height and he’ll say, ‘You need to do it like this guy.'”

With gold buckle genes and tons of young talent behind him, it won’t be long before Brazile is making his own mark in the PRCA.
