Wrangler BFI Week: Charlie 1 Horse Breakaway Adds 40+ Incentive

Premier Women’s Rodeo guarantees $2,000 to Senior champion
PHOENIX, Mar. 5, 2025 – Wrangler BFI Week’s Charlie 1 Horse All-Girl Team Roping has for decades been the country’s richest roping for cowgirls, and was the first major event to add breakaway back in 2017. Now, the Charlie 1 Horse Breakaway on March 26 in Guthrie, Okla., will feature a Senior Incentive for cowgirls over 40, as well as its customary 18-and-Under Incentive.
“We know there are tons of tough older breakaway ropers out there, and wanted to give them a chance to compete against their peers for good money,” said BFI co-owner Daren Peterson.
Premier Women’s Rodeo (PWR) has made the Charlie 1 Horse Breakaway a PWR Qualifier Series Event and is putting up a guaranteed $2,000 to the Senior champion, who needs to be at least 40 years old as of Jan. 1, 2026.
“Having the chance to compete at such a prestigious event while also roping for the Senior Incentive shows how much the industry values the longevity and dedication of breakaway ropers,” said longtime Colorado roper Debbie Fabrizio.
All Open Breakaway contestants are encouraged to nominate the event because PWR is awarding double points in every go-round of the Open. What’s more, the top Limited ropers can earn up to 10 Premier Women’s Rodeo Championship (PWRC) qualifying spots, plus spots will go to the top Pro and Challenger ropers in Guthrie.
Last May at the PWRC (formerly called the Women’s Rodeo World Championship), Josie Conner banked a whopping $69,000 inside Cowtown Coliseum. She’s a Pro, while Challenger Quealy Probst of Utah finished third overall to take home $20,500. In Guthrie, Charlie 1 Horse team ropers are also encouraged to nominate, because qualifying spots to the PWRC will go to the champion Pro and Challenger headers and heelers.
“Creating more money and opportunities for Senior breakaway ropers is something that’s very near and dear to my heart,” said PWR Commissioner Linsay Rosser Sumpter. “I’m proud to see the BFI continue to lead the way in supporting athletes at every stage of their careers.”
The Charlie 1 Horse ropings will kick off BFI Week, which paid out a record $5.3 million in 2025 and runs from Thursday, March 26, through Wednesday, April 1. Last year, Open Breakaway champ Emilee Charlesworth won $21,000 cash in Guthrie plus a truckload of prizes, and teenager Audrey Kremer roped three calves in 11.94 seconds to win the 18-and-Under Incentive.
Charlie 1 Horse All-Girl Team Roping and Breakaway online pre-entries close Mar. 15, while on-site entries are available for a $100 late fee. Visit bfiweek.com for entry information, and visit PremierWomensRodeo.com for details on PWRC nominations and points.
