Well the frost has sure gone off the punkins in my area. It’s going to be a long summer if this persists. I remember summers when it got hot and stayed hot and I don’t remember enjoying one thing about them. On a brighter note, if you have any hay, it shouldn’t take long for it to dry in the windrows.
July 24-25 is the Women’s Ranch Bronc Riding at the Campbell Co. Rodeo at Herreid, S.D. It’s a WRBC point event with $3000 added each day. It also counts as two rodeos. Entries opened July 11 and you can text 940-255-7676 to enter.
If you want to consign a horse to the Big Horn Classic Performance Horse and Production Sale at Buffalo, Wyo. on Sept. 5, the deadline is July 15. The form can be found on the Buffalo Livestock Marketing Facebook page. For more info call Craig 307-746-5690 or Curt 605-210-3329.
Horsin Around Club horse shows are scheduled for July 18 and Aug. 29, both at Rock Ridge Landing Indoor Arena, Rapid City, S.D. Pre-enter if possible. The show bill and entry forms are on the Facebook page.
Entries are open now and are limited for the South Dakota High School Rough Stock Challenge at Faulkton, S.D. on July 31, 6:30 p.m. They’ll take 10 each saddle bronc and bareback riders and there’s a tidy $3000 purse in each event. Top five come back for the short go. To enter call 605-460-1839.
The Crook Co. Fair Youth Rodeo is July 25, 9 a.m. Entries are open now and will close July 20. It’s open to Crook Co. youth only. Enter through http://www.saddlebooks.com/events/15463.

The Dawson Co. Fair Wild Pony Races at Glendive, Mont., will be July 24, 7 p.m. They’re taking five teams of three, age 15 and under, at $50/team. There is $250 added purse money. To enter text Kerry 701-880-8372.

Hardin, Mont. is the place to be to watch the great Horse Nations Indian Relays on July 24-25 during the Big Horn Co. Fair.
Catalogs are available for South Dakota’s Elite Horse Sale July 25. The preview is at 9 a.m. and the sale at 2. Held at Martin Arena out east of Sturgis, S.D. To look over the offering go to http://www.southdakotaelite.com.
I’ll provide more details of the events as I get them, but pencil in the Butte-Lawrence Co. Fair at Nisland, S.D. on July 27-Aug.1. It’s my old 4-H stomping grounds so is dear to my heart.
Entries are open for the 2nd Annual Platte River Rough Stock Showdown July 30, 1 p.m., at the Goshen Pavillion, Torrington, Wyo. To enter the saddle broncs or bull riding, call Zach 307-575-2171. There’s $2000 added per event and 100% payout, with $100 entry fee. Entries will close July 27.
The 1st Annual Wild Horse Race at New Town, N.D. will be July 31. Entry fee is $350/three man team. Entries are open July 27-30 by email 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at fourbearsrc@gmail or by text 701-421-8720. The cash prizes add up to $5000!
An open horse sale will be held at Sheridan Livestock, Rushville, Neb. on July 29, 1 p.m.
