Lockhart reaches $4 million mark! Ropings, barrels, schools, clinics, judging school, bull riding
March came in like a lamb here in my neck of the woods. I’m sure hoping the lion part shows up with some wet snow soon. My dad always said that winter was the best time for a drought, but March needed to make up for it with snow to run water into dams and April rains to bring the grass.
Congratulations to South Dakota’s sweetheart, Lisa Lockhart, on achieving the milestone four million dollar mark in barrel earnings. She’s surpassed any other WPRA competitor and is still going strong. The Oelrichs, S.D. rancher, wife, Mom, and Grandma, is a lovely person and a classy lady.
The Badlands Little Britches Team Roping Fundraiser is Mar. 13, after the rodeo performance. You can enter at 4:30 and the roping should start around 5 p.m. For more details, call Levi O’Keeffe at 701-721-9248. It will be at the James Kjerstad Event Center, Rapid City, S.D.
There will be a breakaway roping at Badlands Edge Arena near Wall, S.D. on March 4. It will have open and youth divisions. Open is two head, short round, for $100 entry, you can enter as many times as you like. Youth is two rounds, no short round, for $50. They will all rope together. Bond Ranch will be holding a Cow Horse Jackpot Series at Worden, Mont. Dates are Mar. 14, 28 and April 11. You’ll need to enter the week before each date. Enter at http://www.bondranch.com/cowhorse-series.
North Dakota Equine Association is hosting a Youth Ranch Rodeo clinic and Ranch Rodeo on Mar. 14. The clinic will be at 10 a.m. and cover the events. The Ranch Rodeo will be at 3 p.m. It’s a National Youth Ranch Rodeo Association sanctioned event. Competitive teams are $75/entry, 70% payout. PeeWee teams are $50/entry and prizes. Clinic fee is $25. You can get entered at http://www.northdakotaequine.com. It will all be held at Healing Horse Ranch, Parshall, N.D.
On Mar. 15 there will be the Badlands Little Britches Open 4D Barrel Fundraiser at the Event Center, Rapid City, S.D. Exhibitions will start right after the rodeo wraps up around 1 p.m. The open 5D will be at 1:30. There will also be 0-7 youth, 8-16 2D youth, and open 4D. The Bar Bull Riding at the Knuckle Saloon in Sturgis, S.D. will be Mar. 28, calcutta at 6:30, event at 7 p.m. Entries are open now and open is $100, and they’ll also take 10 jr. bull riders. An Open Horse Judging will be at the Montrail Co. Fair Building, Stanley, N.D. on Mar. 28. Everyone is welcome to participate! Check-in will be 8-8:45 a.m., judging starts at 9. Junior is 8-13 and senior is 14 and up. There will also be public speaking with illustrated talks for both age groups. They will have up to eight live classes with multiple breeds of horses and up to three sets of reasons. Officials include AQHA card holding judges.

The Annual Bernie Micheel Memorial Bull Riding and Bull Fighting School will be Apr. 10-12 at Bothwell Arena, Rapid City, S.D. Bull Riding instructors are Brett Stall, Clayton Savage and Mason Moody.
