Bar JZ Ranches of Holabird, S.D., Don and Peg along with Seth Zilverberg, hosted their 63rd annual production sale on Feb. 18. The Bar JZ program seeks to offer calving ease bulls that grow well and maintain superior carcass traits. By raising Polled Hereford, Limousin, and Lim-Flex cattle, the Zilverbergs produce bulls and females to meet the needs of many crossbreeding systems.
Lot 29, Bar JZ Audacious 294A, a homozygous polled, GE-EPD tested March 21, 2013, son of McCoy 55M Absolute 49S and out of Bar JZ Rene 873W, a Rib Eye daughter, sold to Thorstenson Hereford Ranch, Selby, S.D. for $12,000.
Lot 13, Bar JZ Victory 235A, a homozygous polled, GE-EPD tested March 11, 2013, son of TH 122 71I Victor 719T and out of Bar JZ Rene 427Y, a Rib Eye daughter, sold to Rausch Herefords, Hoven, S.D., for $10,000.
Lot 1, Bar JZ Freedom 205A, a homozygous polled, GE-EPD tested March 3, 2013, son of R Independence 4430 and out of Bar JZ Love Letter 155X, an Elm-Lodge Next Big Thing 3N daughter, went home with Fink Polled Herefords, Bridgewater, S.D., valued at $7,750.
Lot 4, Bar JZ Blockbuster 221A, a son of NJW 73S M326 Trust 100W and out of a Bar JZ Devotion 442M, a daughter of Bar JZ Devo 394K, found a new home with Chris Luithle, Richardton, N.D., priced at $7,400.
Lot 57, worth $6,500, named Bar JZ Glory 643Z was a March 17, 2012, daughter of Independence. She sold to Fink Polled Herefords, Bridgewater, S.D.
Lot 72, Bar JZ Hope 900A, a March 15, 2013, daughter of Trust went home with CML Herefords, Aberdeen, S.D. $5,000.
Lot 76, Bar JZ Extravagant 238A, a homozygous polled, double black, purebred March 11, 2013, son of Wulfs Xclusive and out of 890W, a Top Criteria daughter was selected by GV Limousin of Garnett, Kansas for $12,000.
Lot 84, Bar JZ Extravagant 305A, a homozygous polled double black, purebred March 24, 2013, son of Wulfs Xclusive and out of 551T, a Justice granddaughter, went to Tim Baer of Onaka, S.D., for $6,300.
Lot 77, Bar JZ Resistol 249A, a double polled, double black, purebred March 13, 2013, son of RUNL Stetson and out of 377Y, a MAGS Unvalued daughter, was claimed by Rick King of Philip, S.D. for $4,500.
Lot 110, Bar JZ Temptation 269A, a double polled, double black, 75 percent LimFlex son of Titus Temptation and out of 175X, a Mytty In Focus daughter, sold to Lee Nolz of Ree Heights, S.D. priced at $4,300.
Lot 114 was a $4,100 bull. Bar JZ Temptation 285A, a double polled, double black, 73 percent LimFlex son of Titus Temptation and out of 034R, a Bando 9074 daughter, was purchased by Beringer Farms, Gettysburg, S.D.
